Information about Korean Weddings

Watch the video below for some information on how Korean weddings unfold.

Travel to Korea

Flight to/from South Korea

Reputable carriers serving South Korea include Delta Air Lines, Korean Air, and Asiana. You can use Google Flights to find the best option according to your budget. Affordable airfare can also be found on flights with layovers in China (e.g., Air China), Taiwan (China Airlines, EVA Air), Japan (ANA, Japan Airlines), or the Middle East (Emirates, Qatar). Take advantage of the layover to discover one more country on your way!

Entry to Korea

To enter South Korea, you will need a passport that expire no earlier than 6 months prior to the start of your trip. You will also need to apply for a K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) at k-eta.go.kr at a cost of 10,000 KRW per person (about 8 dollars). You need to apply for a K-ETA at least 72 hours prior to boarding your flight. For the latest entry requirements, please refer to this page from the Korean Government.

Lodging

We have identified a few hotels located in Gangnam or Jamsil that provide easy access to the ceremony venue.

  • Lotte World Hotel. Connected to one of the largest malls in Seoul, and conveniently located on subway lines 2 and 8. About 25 minutes from the venue. Directions to the ceremony venue: line 8 at Jamsil station bound for Moran station, then exit at Munjeong station.
  • Sofitel Ambassador Seoul Hotel and Serviced Residences. Conveniently located on subway lines 2 and 8. Also features “residence-style” rooms with a kitchenette. About 25 minutes from the venue. Directions to the ceremony venue: line 8 at Jamsil station bound for Moran station, then exit at Munjeong station.
  • Ibis Style Ambassador Seoul Gangnam. Convenient, affordable option.

Other neighborhoods with good hotels and filled with touristic attractions include Myeongdong, Insadong, Itaewon. Itaewon in particular is popular for its foreign population and can ease the experience for people coming to Asia for the first time.

Transportation

We listed transportation methods for popular destinations below. We recommend using Kakao Map over Google Maps while in Korea to get accurate directions (the mobile application Kakao Map has an interface in English).

To/From Incheon International Airport

International Taxis: International taxis can take you to any location in Seoul for a flat fare based on your destination (no meter charge). For best service, this service needs to be booked ahead of time at intltaxi.co.kr. Standard, luxury, and large taxis are available. Drivers speak English. This service is only reserved to foreigners and has the best price and convenience if you are traveling with one or several companions.

Airport Railroad (AREX): The Airport Railroad (AREX) service has express and all-stop trains between Incheon International Airport and Seoul Station. Express train tickets can be purchased on ticket machines prior to boarding the train. All-stop trains use a regular transportation card (T-Money) that can be purchased at convenience stores (a convenience store is located in the arrival area of the airport). More information at arex.or.kr. This is the fastest mode of transportation but can be less convenient than other methods if your hotel is far from Seoul Station.

Airport Buses: Many airport buses provide service between Incheon International Airport and Seoul/Gyeonggi area. Enter your destination on the Korean Airports website to find the line that serves your hotel. To pay for your fare, use a regular transportation card (T-Money) that can be purchased at convenience stores (a convenience store is located in the arrival area of the airport)

Travels within Seoul

Seoul Metro and Buses: Seoul has many subway and bus lines that serves the city and surrounding areas. Use Kakao Map to find directions to your destination and pay for your fare using a T-Money card that can be purchased at any convenience store and topped up at subway stations. Make sure to tap your card when entering and exiting the bus or subway station so that your fare is calculated accurately.

Taxis: Seoul Taxis work like many other large cities’ taxis and can be hailed in the street. Taxi drivers do not consistently speak English; having your destination written in Korean letters usually help drivers a lot. Most taxis accept credit card payments.

Travels outside Seoul

For Mainland South Korea: Inter-city trains and buses serve many Korean cities from Seoul. See these two resources below for more information:

For Jeju Island and Japan: Many air carriers serve Jeju Island and Japan from Gimpo International Airport (in Seoul) and Gimhae International Airport (in Busan). Use Google Flights to find carriers that serve your destination.
